Residents and visitors encouraged to Shop Small during the holiday season

Small Business Saturday is coming this weekend

Black Friday, and the new holiday shopping tradition, Small Business Saturday

"They are the ones who sponsor community events, support school sports and educational initiatives, and get requests almost every day for donations and contributions".

This weekend also brings the flawless opportunity to pair the love of shopping with your sense of smell.

"Small Business Saturday has been around for several years now and it is a great day to say a special "thank you" to the small businesses in our communities", explained Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce President Bud Stone.

"Shop Small Maui, and in particular Small Business Saturday, empower us as consumers to support our local businesses and keep dollars and economic activities flowing back into our local economy". On Saturday, shoppers should use #shopsmallshawnee to tell everyone about the great deals and service they are experiencing.

Participating businesses will display blue and white balloons and Shop Small doormats, offer special deals and give away reusable Shop Small shopping bags with purchases.

A shopping excursion downtown Meadville can invoke the aroma of everything from new clothing to candles, fresh flowers, bath products and even that unmistakable smell of used books. The drawing will be at Culbertson Fountain at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday and winners must be present. "Otherwise, all the towns would just have big box stores", she said. "You know so we just work very closely with them".

The extra incentive is to get non-regular shoppers, as well as return customers, into the stores Saturday.

According to the U.S. Small Business Association's Office of Advocacy, there are more than 900,000 small businesses in operation across the state of OH - about 99.6 percent of all OH businesses.
