In dropping defender David Luiz, Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte has sent a very hard line message to his team.

Conspicuous by his absence from the entire Chelsea lineup was defensive mainstay Luiz though, and Conte warns that the Brazilian's recent efforts have not been up to the required standard to maintain a starting XI spot.

That's according to Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam in the wake of the Brazil global being dropped for Sunday's showdown with Manchester United.

Conte also praised the contribution of Andreas Christensen.

FC runs through the five most significant conflicts Conte has become involved in during his time at Chelsea.

"It is a tactical decision", the manager told Sky Sports. "The coach has to make the best decision for the team, and tonight it was to play for Christensen and have (Ethan) Ampadu on the bench, good players for the present and future".

"Christensen came in yesterday and played very, very well indeed in a massive game".

The Italian added: "This can happen to every one of my players, if I see that they are not in good form". It's normal. I have to make the best decision for the club, not for a single player.

The Brazil defender was banished to the stands on Sunday, after questioning Conte's tactics in a team meeting after the 3-0 loss to Roma on Tuesday.

He said after the United win: "Maybe in the future I can decide a different way or continue in this way".

"I'd be happy to eat humble pie if I'm wrong - and there's part of me that will be pleased if I am because I've a lot of respect for the guy".

The Blues looked back to their best following their harrowing 3-0 defeat at the hands of AS Roma in the Champions League last Tuesday, with the Premier League champions equally as impressive in both attack and defence. Sometimes I can make mistakes. "I try to do this".

Reports have been claiming that David Luiz has infuriated Conte with his attitude in the past few weeks.
