What Is Listeria? Contamination Concerns Prompt Mass Vegetable Recall

Mann's brand prepped salads, veggies, bowls recalled for possible Listeria (photo, product codes)

The company packages a variety of vegetables, from brussels sprouts to broccoli and cauliflower and mixed veggies, that are distributed to stores across Canada and the United States under several brands including Walmart, Trader Joe's and Archer Farms.

The FDA's boiler plate definition of listeria describes it as "an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems".

Here is a complete list of all products recalled by Mann Packing.

Whole Foods is recalling salads from 10 northern California stores, such as Veggie Power Blend, Sesame Chicken Power Salad and Mexican Chicken Power Salad.

If you picked up some vegetables in the past few weeks or so, then you should double check to see if your purchases ended up in this massive recall.

Another 20 products got yanked by Randalls, Tom Thumb and Albertson's stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. Healthy individuals may also suffer short-term symptoms of headache and high fever.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency found a single positive result of listerai monocytogenes in a sample of Mann Packing's products during a random sampling, according to an October 19 news release from the Food and Drug Administration.

If you have any of the above products, then the FDA advises that you either discard it immediately or return it to its point of purchase for a full refund.

Other recalled products include nine-ounce bags of shaved brussels sprouts and 10-ounce bags of cauliflower florets. Triple B consumers can call Michael Ruff, Director of Food Safety for Triple B, at 1-206-577-9852, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.to 7 p.m.
