The Reds at least head to Central Europe having kept a clean sheet against United, although it was secured predominantly due to Mourinho's lack of ambition rather than any sign of tactical improvement.
That has been the story of Liverpool's season so far and their manager Jurgen Klopp will hope they can put Maribor to the sword after another frustrating result against Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday.
Liverpool have suffered a rut of form in September and October, winning just one of eight matches in all competitions, and Klopp believes they must be wary against the Slovenian PrvaLiga champions.
Klopp intends to keep changes to a minimum but could give Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain his first Champions League start for the club.
Maribor have failed to score in only one of their last 11 home UEFA Champions League matches (includes qualifying).
The injury-prone England global has looked a shadow of the player who scored 24 goals in 33 games in his first season at Anfield and would be fortunate to lead the line against Maribor, although Klopp may be tempted to drop Roberto Firmino to the bench ahead of another grueling schedule.
"Maribor is a top team in Slovenia so they usually have to make the game, attack, do a lot of offensive things".
Liverpool have drawn four of their last six UEFA Champions League matches (includes qualifying).
Asked if he would afford Woodburn some game-time against Maribor, Klopp said: "No".
"I would say there has been no consistency until now". We know that's where Liverpool have issues. "We need to be concentrated and fearless against a top team of a European league", he said. I think it could even be a late goal for them to get the win, with captain Jordan Henderson coming to the rescue with an overdue goal.
