Both officers sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was hospitalized in unknown condition following the 3:20 a.m. shooting in the parking lot of the La Verne Town Center in the 2400 block of Foothill Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said. Shumway was shot in the arm and is still being treated.

Police have not been successful in negotiating with the gunman. Police warned residents to take shelter inside their home until further notice.

Authorities say two police officers have been shot in CT. On Saturday afternoon, SWAT team members went inside.

Hartman says officers responded to reports of gunfire.

However, police fired their guns. The man with the gun was also taken to a hospital.

Neighboring buildings were evacuated. Police set up a perimeter around the area. But the suspect continued approaching the officer "in a threatening manner".

"I heard that there was some shooting and I'm surprised, very, very surprised", said Erell Skyers, who has lived in the neighborhood for 12 years.

Governor Dan Malloy released a statement following the incident.

The video, posted on Facebook and YouTube, shows the man in a physical confrontation with a Huntington Beach police officer outside of a 7-Eleven Friday morning in the beach city.

Hartman said it's too soon to tell for sure, but police believe the incident began as "some sort of domestic dispute". "We wish each of them a full and quick recovery".
