HBO's political satire sealed its third consecutive best comedy series win.

"The Handmaid's Tale" took home several other awards this year, including best drama series.

The actress beat out Pamela Adlon, Jane Fonda, Allison Janney, Ellie Kemper, Tracee Ellis Ross and Lily Tomlin for this year's outstanding lead actress in a comedy series award.

McKinnon thanked Clinton for her "grace and grit". "You are fearless and strong and smart", she said.

The Emmy for outstanding television movie went to Netflix's "Black Mirror: San Junipero", which also won a prize for outstanding writing for a limited series or movie for Charlie Brooker.

"The Voice" won the reality competition category.

Trump loomed over the ceremony as the target of multiple jokes.

NU alumnus Stephen Colbert (Communication '86) hosted this year's show in Los Angeles.

"This will be the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period, both in person and around the world", Spicer said.
