A French soldier has been attacked at the Châtelet metro station in Paris by a knife-wielding man on 15 September, according to wire reports.

The soldier involved was with the Sentinelle force assigned to protect prominent sites after deadly Islamic extremist attacks in recent years. The attacker was overpowered by the soldier and arrested.

On August 9 six soldiers on patrol in the ongoing anti-terror operation dubbed Operation Sentinelle in the Paris suburb of Levallois were injured, two seriously, when a auto deliberately rammed into them.

"This new attack legitimizes what we want to do", French Defense Minister Florence Parly told Europe 1.

The unidentified man is said to have rushed at a patrol of soldiers wearing combat uniforms and brandishing assault rifles.

The attacker was not previously known to police, a source said.

On Aug. 9 six soldiers in Levallois, outside Paris, were hurt when a driver deliberately rammed into them, authorities said. No one else was attacked or injured. In April, a police officer was killed in a shooting on the Champs-Elysées.

The local prosecutor's office said witnesses of the attack in a public park of the town center heard the attacker shout Allahu Akbar while hitting the women, who were taken to hospital but whose life is not in danger.

France has been the victim of a string of ISIS-inspired terror attacks in the past two years, most notably the November 2015 atrocities that claimed the lives of 130 people.
