Last week, the Category 5 Hurricane Irma hammered St. Barts and St. Martin islands, leaving at least 11 dead, seven missing people and over 100 injured, as well as a almost total devastation of urban infrastructure.
Government spokesman Christophe Castaner, speaking Sunday with Europe1-CNews-Les Echos, said he "perfectly (understood) the anger" of residents after Hurricane Irma tore through the islands, killing nine people, destroying houses and cutting off the water supply.
The consulate said it was working with the US and other governments to try to figure out how to get the Americans off the island either by air or boat.

The President said he planned to go on a patrol in St. Martin on Tuesday night with French security forces to see for himself that law and order have been restored following reports of widespread looting.
The Foreign Office said in a statement a team of British humanitarian experts has been in the region for a week working with authorities and directing the humanitarian response. In St. John, thousands of Americans are still waiting to be evacuated. There was no communication coming out of St. Thomas and St. John. The US government evacuated more than 1,200 people according to CBS news.
But the French government has claimed it is far more hard to arrange evacuation from islands than it is on a mainland where people can use their own vehicles to drive to safety.
"Here at the gates (to the airport) they don't know anything", Brigitte van der Posch, 46, told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper, adding that the evacuation was "chaotic".
Newlywed Frances Bradley-Villier said all that was left in St. Martin was "devastation".
Officials said they were waiting for Jose to pass through before distributing food rations and water.
"I have seen proper war as well as natural disasters before, but I've never seen anything like this".

About 400 exhausted and traumatised survivors of Hurricane Irma, which pummelled Caribbean islands last week, arrived in France and the Netherlands on Monday aboard military planes.
"We continue to work flat out to help the people who have suffered so much in the Caribbean, particularly of course in our overseas territories, in Anguilla, in the Turks and Caicos, and above all in the British Virgin Islands where there's been massive devastation", said Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
Briton Claudia Knight said her partner, Leo Whitting, 38, was stranded on Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands.
The EU also announced an initial aid package of $2.4 million for emergency relief.
