Rumor: Xbox One Spotify App in Testing, Could Release Soon

Spotify is on its way to the Xbox One, new app now being tested

While it is dated, Microsoft Expertzone (the retail training provider for Microsoft) tweeted something about Spotify being on the Xbox in July. Microsoft says you want them. Microsoft is also planning a number of dashboard enhancements to the Xbox One in the coming months, in the lead up to the new Xbox One X console. The deal effectively calls time on Sony's own ambitions in music streaming, with the Spotify app replacing the platform-holder's Music Unlimited service. Pictures of Microsoft's Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) testing a Spotify app for Xbox One were spotted on Reddit earlier this week, fuelling speculation that a real Spotify Xbox app is on the way. The company has made their app available on many devices including Android, iOS, Windows 10, and the PlayStation consoles (by way of PlayStation Music). "I'm thrilled today to introduce a new music destination called PlayStation Music, with Spotify as the exclusive partner", Sony's ‎Senior Vice President of Marketing and Head of PlayStation Network, Eric Lempel, said.

Sources and evidence corroborate that internal testing for an Xbox Spotify app is now underway- implying that the app may be close to completion, and therefore, release. That wasn't to be the case however. Spotify is a leader in digital music, with over 30m tracks available, 60 million active users and an impressive 15 million paying subscribers.
