Asked about his reputation for having a combative style of play, the Portugal worldwide said: "Something happened in a match against Getafe [in 2009, when he was sent off for assaulting Javier Casquero] and I was banned for 10 games".
It was also during his time at Real that he won the Euro 2016 with Portugal. Fikret Orman, the Beşiktaş chairman, was personally involved in the signing process, following efforts by the transfer committee president, Umut Güner. Pepe appeared with a Beşiktaş jersey in the late hours of July 4, writing "No bad days, loading." on his social media account.
Pepe, 34, was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and had said he received offers from Premier League clubs. Olympic Lyon's Mathieu Valbuena signed with Fenerbahçe, another title contender, which also signed with Malaga's Cameroonian goalkeeper Carlos Kameni.
