China claiming sizeable Bhutan territory, Nehru tells Zhu

India-China border stand-off indicates deterioration in ties and China's efforts to thwart India's progress

India should shed 'strategic anxiety: Chinese media

"For America, the weapons deal will not only reap enormous monetary gains from India, but also strengthen India's advantage in the Indo-Pacific region to check China", the article in the Global Times said. "By entering into Chinese territory and obstructing Chinese troops' normal activities, India violated the existing convention on the boundary and basic principle of the global law and obstructed peace and stability of the boundary area, " Geng told reporters in Beijing in an extensive briefing.

"The action taken by India is a betrayal of the position taken by the Indian governments", Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a media briefing in Beijing. "The India-China boundary in the Sikkim section is well demarcated". However, India clarified that no such pressure has been exerted on Bhutan and it acted on its own accord. India is in a security arrangement with Bhutan to provide protection to its borders. The ministry struck to its arguments based on the 1890 Sikkim-Tibet treaty although New Delhi has rejected Chinese arguments supporting their claim on the Doklam area in Bhutan.

The occurrence could be worrying for India due to the timing, as post the military standoff near Sikkim, China has started invading waterways with deployment of warships in Indian Ocean region. To this China accused India of betraying the agreement.

The Army Chief said that India is ready for security threats posed by China, Pakistan as well as by internal threats.

China has sought a meaningful dialogue with India over the border row in the Sikkim sector and asked it to withdraw its troops from Doklam, insisting that Beijing has "indisputable sovereignty" over the area, as per Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang's statement.

Last week, after China warned India to learn from its military debacle of 1962, Jaitley had said that the India of 2017 was not the India of 1962. But it is this convention which has confirmed the alignment of the boundary between the two sides at the Sikkim section. China accepted the third call for flag meeting after rejecting the earlier two. After all, China lays claim to Indian and Bhutanese territories on the basis of alleged Tibetan (not Han Chinese) links to them historically.

By arbitrarily halting the pilgrimages, Beijing is reminding New Delhi to review its Tibet policy. "The line commences at Mount Gipmochi on the Bhutan frontier, and follows the above-mentioned parting of the waters to the point where it meets Nepal's territory".

China recognizes Sikkim as a protectorate of British India in 1890, which it claims India occupied in 1975.

As tensions mount, the Indian army moved more troops to Doka La, in what is now the longest row with China since 1962. The stealth wars include constructing a dispute and then setting in motion a jurisdictional creep through a steady increase in the frequency and duration of Chinese incursions - all with the intent of either establishing military control over a coveted area or pressuring the opponent to cut a deal on its terms.

"India should change its hostile attitude toward China as a good relationship is beneficial for both sides", Wang Dehua further adds.
