Jose Mourinho says he has worked "harder than ever" during his first season at Manchester United.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young will all miss the final against Ajax with injuries, while Bailly is suspended after being sent off in the semifinal second leg against Celta Vigo on Thursday.
"The boys gave everything they had and I'm really pleased for them".
"Obviously now Ajax think about the final", the United manager said. I never understood if it is a draw or if they put the data in the computer, but to finish the season with four matches away from home - Arsenal, Tottenham, Man City - if we were fighting for the title, what a way to fight for the title. This will be an important game to allow them to get a win over a big team and maintain their position as second on the ladder. United, in contrast, have a further three league games to play in that time.
Despite their lacklustre form in the Premier League, Manchester United could finish the season with two trophies in their bag and qualification for next season's Champions League.
"We did things that nobody did in this club in the first season, like winning a trophy, like having the record of Manchester United in the Premier League, unbeatable, like reaching a European final".
"It is not always easy when you work every day to play and you don't play", the 30-year-old said.
"It means an opportunity to end the season in the flawless way because the final is the last match of the season".
Indeed, with Arsenal four points clear in fifth and Everton unable to catch Mourinho's charges, sixth place looks nearly inevitable for a team that has occupied that position for nearly the entire campaign. It has been a great journey, it did not end the way we wanted it to, but we gave it our very best and no one can ask for more.
But Mourinho said it would be wrong purely to view the final as a means to an end, particularly as United have never previously won the competition. I don't think we can finish seventh or we can finish fourth, so fifth or sixth. But provided with the luxury of replacing a keeper that has been very reliable with one of the very best in the world is an idea that the Portuguese will relish to ponder.
"They are so friends and they support each other all the time".
"I think it's fair that Sergio is going to play the final and David accepts that, especially because he's already played Europa League matches and if we win the trophy, David wins the trophy".
