Donald Trump tweeted his congratulations for Daly on Monday morning, one day after Daly hung on for his first career PGA Tour Champions title and first win on tour since 2004.

Daly shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Kenny Perry in the PGA Tour Champions' Insperity Invitational.

"Long John" celebrated in style by getting blasted with champagne on the final green of The Woodlands in Texas, before picking up a cheque of $322,500. "That's all that matters".

Daly, a two-time major champion who became a crowd favorite in the 1990s for his bombs-away approach to the game, won his first event on American soil for 13 years.

John Daly had not won a PGA tournament since 2004.

Left-hander Brian Harman turned into a giant-killer when he rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt at the final hole to win the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday and snuff out Dustin Johnson's hopes of winning a fourth consecutive start. He followed that with a birdie on the second hole keep close to the leader.

When Daly tapped in the winning putt, he pumped his fist.

"Now, I can say I'm a champion on the Champions Tour, which is really cool".

"I didn't hit the irons very good these last two days". "I had my opportunities to flip the scores on holes but I never could do it", Perry said.
