And while Samsung and Qualcomm did an unbelievable job at building brand new chips that are more powerful and more energy-efficient than ever, iPhones still mop the floor with the Galaxy S8 when it comes to the most important area of performance.
Both versions of the Galaxy S8, the 5.8-inch and the larger 6.2-inch S8 Plus, are now available for preorder and are expected to hit the US market on April 21 at a cost of $720.
"Microsoft Store is committed to empowering its customers to achieve more through Office and Microsoft applications". The second surprise though, was that Samsung had teamed up with Microsoft to sell a "Microsoft Edition" Galaxy S8. Interestingly, those going with the Microsoft Edition will now have three virtual assistants - Bixby, Google Assistant and Cortana.
Even Microsoft is being swept up in Samsung Galaxy S8 mania.
According to reports, because of the Galaxy Note 7 issues, Samsung had to pay more attention to the battery. They will only be available in AT&T or Verizon flavors for now. It doesn't look like they have, though it could just be down to the software being in an early, unreleased state - and maybe, just maybe it'll be fixed before the device goes on sale on April 21. Apple might also use the 2.5D OLED edge to edge display for the new Apple iPhone 8.
In the USA the phones are running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors while in other countries it will sport Samsung's own Exynos octa-core chip. Phone screens are covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and the back. This is the reason why the batteries of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have been reduced. Users were still able to get Bixby up and running on Android Nougat touting smartphones, however, the experience is likely to be somewhat different. Samsung hopes to turn its fortunes around with its latest releases.
